Week 5 • March 22-28

This week will challenge us to read through 12 different New Testament Letters.  Keep in mind that each letter was originally written to a different audience and was trying to communicate a different point based upon their situation.

DAY 29 • March 22

Hebrews 1:1-8:13

Key Verse: Hebrews 4:15

Hebrews is a commentary on the Old Testament. The author compares Old Testament law to New Testament faith. As you read Hebrews you will also find strong support for the superiority of faith in Jesus Christ over the law. Today, thank God that our High Priest understands what we go through every day. Jesus did not look down on us from the mountain top but has walked in the valley before us.

DAY 30 • March 23

Hebrews 9:1-13:25; Philemon

Key Verses:  Hebrews 12:1-2

What does a life of faith look like?  How do we live lives worthy of the great Faith chapter in Hebrews 11?  The Hebrew writer shares that because of the example of the heroes in the faith that we should lay aside what hinders us and the sin that keeps us in bondage.  The only way that is possible is by keeping our eyes on Jesus who has made the Way for us!

DAY 31 • March 24

James and 1-2 Peter

Key Verse:  James 1:19

Is it possible to have good hearing, but be hard of listening? Sure, it is!  It’s obvious if we are to receive anything from God, we must develop an attentive ear. If we are to hear from God, it will be because we are slow to speak. If we intend to learn, we have to practice quick listening and slow speech at the same time! A great talker is rarely a great listener.  Those who want to hear God speak will have to be less impressed with the sound of their own voice, and value beyond measure hearing God speak.

DAY 32 • March 25

1 - 3 John Jude

Key Verse: 1 John 3:23

How well do we love one another? It is commanded of us to do so.  We cannot pick and choose the commandments we will obey.  We love one another as He loves us. We do not shoot or live behind our wounded.  We love, forgive and restore.  It is commanded.

DAY 33 • March 26

1 Thessalonians - 2 Thessalonians

Key Verse: 2 Thessalonians 3:5

Paul established the church in Thessalonica during his second missionary journey. He writes this letter a short time later to encourage the young believers there of his love for them , and to praise them for their faithfulness during persecution, and to remind them of the hope we all have in the return of or Lord and Savior. He warns them to be prepared at all times for Jesus’ return------he warns the idle (5:14), encourages the timid (5:14), help the weak (5:14), be patient with everyone (5:14), be kind to everyone (5:14), be joyful always (5:16), pray continually (5:17), give thanks (5:18), test everything that is taught (5:20, 21) , and avoid evil (5:22). Paul wrote the second letter to the church at Thessalonica to encourage those who were facing persecution and to correct a misunderstanding about the timing of the Lord’s return. The teaching about Christ’s return had promoted idleness in this young church. The imminent coming of Christ should never make us idle; we should be even more busy----living purely, using our time well, and working for his kingdom. Christians should watch patiently for His return, and work for him while we wait.
